Zion, a sandstone verstion of Yosemite Valley, only quieter! Most cars aren't allowed into the canyon to cut the smog buildup in the narrow space, and tourists are forced to take free shuttle busses, which stops periodically along the valley floor.
The canyon walls are up to 1800 feet high, some just vertical walls of sandstone. The stone is pink, red, white and black where it's been water varnished, or has lichen growing on it, and is quite sandy in some places.
We chose a route up left of a massive Red Arch on a buttress called 'Shune's Buttress' (5.11c) and 6 or 7 long pitches, of crack and face climbing.
Unfortunately our camera batteries dies, so this is the only picture of Zion we got!
